Syrnia is 1000 days old today

"There will be a celebration going on throughout Syrnia for the 1000th day in existence!

There will be some random events going on each hour at different random cities in Syrnia. From invasions to Combination Chests(with some nice rewards) and some contests.

On a bit of a sour note, whoever was modding at the time needs to be shot. Muting people for drinking in game rum and chatting is the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. This mod has duly been named 'Wanker mod'!

Wedding - Kannecat & Indisponente @ 21:00

Tonight at 21:00 syrnia time, Indisponente and Kannecat will be tying the knot and getting married at the Chapel in Rose Castle.

I couldn't think of any two people who are so perfectly made for each other.

Feel free to join in the celebration tonight, drink much and be merry!!

It is believed that their honeymoon will be spent in a special holiday chalet overlooking the beach.

Bandits attack!

Serpenthelm was the target of this attack. Burning Beach and Singing river are now clear of bandits, but the bandits took over the town at Rose gates.

At the time of this post there are 28 Syrnians fighting at Rose gates and there are 978 Bandits left.

Bronze bar contest

The citizens of Eully started a contest: The one to collect the best Bronze bars will be paid 5000 gold

The second and thirth best entries will be paid out 2500 and 1666 gold. The contest ends in 1 hours.

Pathetic modding yet again

I have been muted for 697 minutes / 11.6 hours. Over the top modding by a mod with serious issues.

I very rarely chat in syrnia due to getting muted by mods for silly reasons. Today I saw someone ask for some information and I thought I would reply and ended up having a fun chat. Until I got warned for saying the word "pissed" by a mod.

Having explained to the mod that the word 'pissed' is not offensive, I of course lost the argument and got muted.

While a lot of players kiss the mods arse's, a lot of players have told me that they don't talk much in syrnia because of the modding. If more players said something publicly them maybe the problems will get fixed. I know that players are scared of saying stuff in chat or on the forums because....the mods might get them, but there are plenty of other avenues to make your feelings known.

Update: A senior member of staff has reduced the mute from the wacko 11.6 hour mute to 2 hours. Whilst its good that a senior member of staff can reduce a mute that another mod makes out of spite, I am still fighting the original issue for the mute out of principal.

Franir Mines (All Pirates killed before capture)

Update: Sammy guessed the combination to the Bonewood chest within 3 minutes of the chest appearing and got 4 ambers from it! The lucky number was 136.

Invasions everywhere

Rumours of rat invasions at various places, gnomes , dark widows at Kanzo and many more creatures at different locations.

Having travelled back to Skull after fighting the Lizard invasion at Rose gates I sailed into Crabs Nest only to find that Pirates were invading this location. Hearing that pirates had succeeded in capturing Hooks Edge, I moved on to there.

The Pirates have captured this city, you can attack this settlement to regain it.

Lizards attack and Capture Rose Gates

As I went past Rose gates I caught an invasion of Lizards with 1 minute left to capture.

Reports have come in that there are significant amounts of Dark widows at Kanzo and Aloria.

Earthquake hits the island of Exrollia

The earthquake woke the Pterosaurs at Port Calviny, Oviraptors at Avinin and Wadjets at Mt Flag.

4,235 Amber gems in Syrnia

Manda revealed that at 15:30 today there were 4,235 Amber's in syrnia.

Elzar, Tora and thor666 won a red gift each for having guesses that were the closest to this number.

The figure makes you wonder why there is so many that have not been used. Some will be in shops for sale, some in shops that display 1 of each item, some will be in houses waiting to be used and there will be some held by players who do not play anymore.

Even so, I would never have guessed there were so many!

[Mods], [Guides], Competitions and Invasions

The latest announcement covers a few subjects.

• Spindoc, Manda and Saucywhopper are now displaying their Mod tags.
• Some players who help out new players will get the [Guide] tag to show they can be trusted.

Bandits and Eagles attack Dearn

The attacks are all over now. Reports are that the Bandits attacked Kinam and Nabb Mines.

Debate on help chat

The usefulness of help chat is being questioned on the syrnia forums.

Personally I have help chat turned off so dont have much of an opinion on it. If it is stopping a lot of questions reaching world chat, maybe it is worth keeping.

It has also been suggested in that thread that world chat should be removed too. I disagree with this as the chat system is what makes the game fun. Its something to do while you wait for timers to countdown. The modding however does need to be improved as the same players have been allowed to argue daily with different people without much recourse.

Time Calculator

Syrnia Corner is proud to present a different type of calculator. The time calculator.

It gives you a rough idea of how long it will take to level or to reach a certain level. Due to the variables involved it can never be accurate, but im sure it will be useful to some. I often did this sort of calculation using windows calc.

The calculator will be tidied up and modified as I go along, so expect to see a perfect sized popup window calculator with pretty background pictures etc eventually ;)

Also note that this calculator currently works up to level 110, which should be ok for most people.

M2H spotted hanging out at Rynir Mines

Gromaz sent me a screenshot of M2H at Ryanir mines, taken around the time of the last invasion. M2H has changed his clothes since the last screenshot I recieved a few weeks ago and has the new Pirate Falchion equipped.

An invasion of Young Eagles hit the beach of Xanso. The poor youngsters stood no chance due to the number of sword and axe holding warriors that rushed their to slay them.

"You might have noticed a lot of bug fixes the last few days as we are still enjoying the ticket system, thanks to all for the (bug) reports.

Other news: Have you (ever) donated but did you not get the donation reward right away ?Then worry not; as listed on the support page you should contact us right away and we'll add the donation as soon as possible. So this is an reminder to open up a ticket with any donation problem right here. However, good news for any future donators: we are currently improving the donation system to make sure any donation is always added right away (in the past mainly the "e-cheque" donations were troublesome). This should be finished within a day. Any donations during this maintenance are manually being watched, so nothing can go wrong.

Furthermore we are busy re-coding the whole Syrnia framework. This means we won't add gameplay updates for a short while as it would only be more work to re-create these updates on the new framework. But this new framework is worth it as this will add more speed, gameplay and layout features. We have already been working on it for a while so you don't have to wait much much longer (Sorry; I cannot give any estimate yet..and I hate making any false promises). We will of course still fix any bugs in the meanwhile."

Fingers crossed that the battlemage arena gets fixed, although I guess the area is not as important as the donation system :-P

Abu Yassir Fatti Fukki name change

Abu Yassir Fatti Fukki ** has had his name changed by M2H to Dark Lord Abu.

There has been no annoucement about this but I think its safe to assume that a few players complained about this name being offensive, going by similar complaints I have seen in world chat.

It may also be due to the fact that it seems to be common knowledge now that Abu's name originated by putting M2H's real name into the Afghan Terrorist Name Generator.

** The ki at the end of the name was always missing due to the maximum length of names in syrnia.

40 minutes in the outlands

After finally having enough storage space to hold all my items (except a few k burnt fish and 2k broken glass) I ventured out into the outlands wearing a cheap steel suit, steel axe and 10 mackerals.

Thirty minutes later I had walked around the whole of the outlands over ten times and not found anyone. If I had brought a fishing rod or pickaxe I could have done some work there while it was empty.

While typing in clan chat telling them that no one was in the outlands, I died!!

I'll probably do it again soon as losing a cheap armour suit and weapon is a small cost for the odd chance that you could kill someone and get some nice drops.

Staff update

Some updates are being made to chat and the syrnia forum which add tags to some of the moderators. While the reason for doing this now is unclear, popular belief is that it is to try and show that not every mod is a dw-hq member. Which may also explain why Manda (forum mod obviously if you look at the announcement forum) no longer wears the dw-hq/dw tag and also why Manda's forum avatar has changed from the dw-hq avatar that was there a short time ago.

So far ladyraven143 is the only mod to come out of the closet, although we can expect some more soon.

Invasion + Pirate Update

This was seen in the early hours of the morning. Does anyone know if this was just for fun or if a sea monster was about?

The pirate invasion was succesful in 3 of the 4 locations......well sort of. The stockhouse information board said that we had captured Mentan as there were 2 pirates left, but due to the fact those last 2 pirates were in combat at the time..we didnt actually capture. So no gold and no multiplying of pirates at Mentan.

Berian was fully succesful and I got this message from Syrnia as a result:

Here is your share of our loot at Berian:+766 gold.
For helping the pirates you got -42 fame.

Franir mines where the Roughnecks invaded was also succesful, but due to a known bug with Roughies, everyone recieved zero gold and fame.

New Weapon

There is a new weapon on the block, the pirates Falchion.

The Falchion is dropped by Roughnecks during an invasion and early reports suggest it has an aim/power of 14/14 and requires level 15 attack to use.

I will confirm these details and add a picture asap.

Invasion

The invasion is in progress, so it happened today after all ;-)

Pirate general Rudilyn has got 336 hours left to attack untill pirates mutiny.

We are currently attacking Franer Mines with Roughneck.
There are 363 left.and we got 58 minutes left until we capture.

We are currently attacking Berian with Keelhails pirate.
There are 324 left.and we got 26 minutes left until we capture.

We caputured Mentan with level 6 pirates but they did not multiply as the last 2 pirates were in combat. Aprently they only multiply if there are pirates left not in combat.

Pirate invasion disappointment

Since joining the pirates on Monday with some other players, we worked pretty hard to fill all of the pirate captains requests at the stockhouse, so hard in fact that all requests were filled by wednesday except for one brigantine. This brigantine was finished on Thursday.

Even so, we have not invaded yet. The reason? The pirate captain (Rudilyn) only wants to send an invasion when she is present to watch the whole duration of the invasion. Being as she works Monday to Friday, its pretty safe to say that most invasions will happen at the weekend, even if it is ready to send midweek/2 days after the last invasion.

For this reason I will not take part in any more invasions. I may stay on skull for a small time to bar fight and increase my combat xp though.

If anything I now know why non-pirates can wait so long for an invasion to happen. The last invasion on Monday was within hours of the time limit which would have caused a pirate mutiny and a change of Pirate leader.

The current mutiny time is as follows:

Pirate general Rudilyn has got 225 hours left to attack untill pirates mutiny.

The last few days

The Haloween party island was a nice change from the normal day to day life of syrnia. The last hour was manic with many players trying to trade skeleton parts, so much so that trade chat was moving so fast it was unreadable!

With quite a few players getting Koban masks and striped fish at the event, it will be interesting to see what happens to the prices of these items. It wouldnt suprise me if Koban masks go as low as 5k but no lower than that. In time the price will probably increase again.
